UCMAS Abacus, Mental Arithmetic's and Mathematics program

About UCMAS Qatar

At UCMAS Qatar, we are dedicated to enhancing children’s lives where we offer a unique opportunity for children aged 4 to 13 to participate in a program that contributed to the mental health, development and excellence of kids around the globe since 2004, we are only Abacus program in the world combine Mental arithmetic’s with modern math’s.
UCMAS Qatar utilizes the “Abacus Mental Arithmetic” skills as a training tool for the mental development of children. Mental Arithmetic is a form of calculation that is solely done by the human mind without the use of pencil and paper, calculator or any other gadget or electronic device.
During the training process, children are transformed into professional users of the abacus, an ancient Chinese calculator, and then a different set of mental training allows the child to imagine or visualize a virtual or a “mental” abacus to solve mathematical problems. These mental arithmetic processes will act as an actual training for the child’s mental skills that are occupied during the arithmetic solving process and help improve them.

Vision

To be the leader in the field of Abacus Mental Arithmetic and mathematics in Qatar using two-hand system of the abacus arithmetic, mental arithmetic with four fingers techniques.

Mission

Creating Great Brains and establish strong Mathematics foundation for our students.

UCMAS QATAR PROGRAM STRUCTURE AND OVERVIEW

We split our development process into three programs:

UCMAS Qatar Pre-Junior Program (Ages 4-6)

At UCMAS Qatar, we offer a Pre-Junior Program designed specifically for young learners aged 4 to 6 years old. This program introduces children to the fundamentals of math, number writing, and abacus usage, helping them build confidence and develop essential cognitive skills at an early age. The program is divided into two key levels:

Foundation Level (Ages 4-5)

This stage is designed for children who are beginning their learning journey with numbers. The focus is on:

  • Proper Pencil Holding & Number Writing – Teaching students how to correctly hold a pencil and write numbers from 0 to 20 with clarity and confidence.
  • Introduction to Basic Arithmetic – Early exposure to addition and subtraction concepts using simple, engaging techniques.
  • Fundamentals of the Abacus – Students begin learning about the abacus, including its basic parts (frame, beam, rods, and beads). They are introduced to bead manipulation, which helps develop fine motor skills and enhances their ability to count.
  • Confidence in Reading & Writing – Within three months, students will be able to recognize, read, and write numbers independently, laying a strong foundation for future learning.

By the end of this level, students will have basic numerical literacy, be able to count up to 20, and start performing simple addition and subtraction using both traditional methods and the abacus.

KG Level (Ages 5-6)

At this level, students build upon their foundational knowledge and advance their understanding of the abacus and arithmetic operations. The key learning areas include:

  • Understanding Abacus Parts & Functions – Students gain a deeper understanding of the Abacus Frame, Beam, Rods, and Beads and their role in performing calculations.
  • Bead Manipulation & Number Representation – They learn how to represent numbers from 0 to 9 on the abacus and effectively manipulate beads for calculations.
  • Introduction to Direct Arithmetic Operations – Students start performing addition and subtraction using both hands with the four- and six-finger techniques, ensuring better coordination and efficiency.
  • Proper Sitting Posture & Abacus Handling – Training on how to sit correctly and position the abacus properly to prevent unnecessary movement, allowing for precise and quick calculations.
  • Interactive Learning with Flashcards & Speed Writing – These techniques help enhance mental math skills, speed, and accuracy.

This stage lasts three months, during which students develop the ability to use the abacus independently for simple calculations. By the end of the KG Level, students will be able to confidently add and subtract numbers, setting a strong foundation for advanced mental arithmetic skills.

Junior Levels

UCMAS Qatar offer Junior program for kids age 6 to 13 years old , we have three Construction Modules in this stage, With this benefits

Stronger and faster arithmetic on a physical abacus

Stronger and faster arithmetic on a physical abacus

Better recalling capacity & focus stimulation of both sides of the brain

1. Basic Level 1

2. Elementary A Level 2

3. Elementary B Level 3

Each level is 3 months.

Senior Levels

UCMAS Qatar offer Senior Level program for kids age 6 to 13 years old after they finish successfully Junior level ,in this level we have two modules ( Advanced and Master Module) , with following benefits:

5. Advance Level 8

Course Duration/Session

Every child takes Three months to complete each level. The session is conducted once a week and 2 hours per session.

Benefits

It is often assumed that learning mental arithmetic is merely a method to improve the speed and accuracy of calculations. For example, adding 10-digit numbers within a few seconds is an amazing accomplishment for most young children. However, it is much more than that. It is developing the mental skills and abilities of the mind such as powerful concentration, accurate observational and active listening skills, strong visualization, vast imagination and great photographic memory.
